Important Information

Studio Policies & Resources

At Commonwealth, our mission is to build an inclusive community where students of any age, experience level, and ability come together to learn self-expression, movement arts, and healthy risk-taking through the joy of circus!

We want every student to feel informed, supported, and ready to move! This page includes important information about how our studio runs, including access notes, new student resources, and our general policies on classes, cancellations, and more.

Please take a moment to review these materials and reach out to us with any questions!

General Policies

All students or guests who enter the C3 studio (lobby not included) must have a signed C3 waiver on file with the C3 office. Waivers are available at C3 or are available for download below. Students who have registered for a class or workshop through Amilia will complete an electronic waiver during registration and do not need to sign a paper waiver.

Download the C3 Waiver

All refunds are subject to a 5% administrative fee (inclusive of all programs). Refunds are ONLY granted in the case of extraordinary circumstances and at the discretion of C3 management. Please check your schedule before signing up for classes!

In cases where C3 has to cancel a class or workshop, a full refund will be processed.

All registrations and make-up credits are non-transferable, meaning only the student who is signed up may use them.

Attendance

  1. Students are encouraged to attend all classes, as skills progress from week to week. If a student misses a class, they may ask for class notes from a fellow classmate.
  2. Students in introductory and intermediate classes must attend at least one class out of the first three classes.
  3. If a student knows they will not be able to attend a class, they can remove themselves from the class roster by following the instructions below.
  4. If the student removes themselves from the roster more than 4-hours before the class, then the student is entitled to a make-up credit. See below for instructions for how to use this credit. Students are eligible for two make-up credits during 6-9 week sessions and one make-up credit during sessions that are 4-weeks long or shorter.
  5. C3 does not guarantee that there will be spaces available in specific classes or practice times for students to make up missed classes. Classes are often very full; this make-up option is offered as a courtesy, not as a guarantee.

Make-Up Policy

Please note: Registrations for classes, workshops, and other programs are non-transferable, meaning that a student may not sell nor gift their spot in a class, workshop, etc., to another student. This policy is firm and there are no exceptions, including among family members.

  • If a student knows they will miss a specific class date, they may cancel their reservation for that class by accessing the Make-up/Drop-in Calendar. To cancel a class reservation, click on the class you wish to cancel and click the red “Unregister” button in the pop-up window. A student must cancel their reservation at least 4-hours in advance of the class in question in order to receive a make-up class credit.
  • A student may not receive more than 2 make-up classes per class per 6-9 week session and no more than 1 make-up class per 4-week or shorter session.
  • C3 does not guarantee that there will be spaces available in specific classes or practice times for students to make up missed classes. Classes are often very full; this make-up option is offered as a courtesy, not as a guarantee.
  • Make-up class credits must be used in the same session. Unused make-up class credits cannot be rolled over into the next session.
  • If C3 is closed due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, Administration will contact students directly regarding make-up options.
  • All students should contact info@commonwealthcircus.com in the event of injury, illness, or another cause for long-term absences.

Students can use make-up class credits in one of three ways:

  1. Attend another class:
    1. Adult students can use the Make-up/Drop-in Calendar to reserve a spot in a class of the same or lower level in the same discipline as their missed class, space permitting. Students can also use make-up classes to attend Fitness, Juggling & Flexibility classes.
    2. Youth students (or their parent/guardian) can use the Make-up/Drop-in Calendar to reserve a spot in an age-appropriate class, space permitting.
    3. All make-up classes must be reserved via the Make-up/Drop-in Calendar.
  2. Attend an Open Studio as a make-up:
    1. To use this option, a student (or their parent/guardian) should use Make-up/Drop-in Calendar.
  3. Attend an Online Class or Workshop:
    1. To use this option, a student can access the Online Class and Workshops! page to reserve a spot in a class of their choice, space permitting.

How to Apply a Make-up Credit:

  • To use a make-up, click on the class or practice date and time you would like to attend, then click “Multipass” on the pop-up window. If you do not see this option, it means you do not have a make-up available. Please email info@commonwealthcircus.com with questions!
  • The Make-up/Drop-in Calendar will be available after registration for the session closes. All unclaimed spots for session classes will be converted into drop-ins one week after the start of the session.

Injuries

In the event that a student is unable to complete a session of classes due to an injury (whether sustained in or outside of class), C3 will issue an account credit for the value of the remaining classes to be used toward any future class registration. Students must contact C3 promptly via email at info@commonwealthcircus.com to request an account credit in case of injury.

Students with existing injuries or physical limitations are encouraged to schedule a private lesson or attend a Drop-In Class before registering for a session of classes to make sure they can participate in class activities. Refunds will not be granted in cases where an existing injury prevents a student from fully participating.

Weather-related cancellations

  • C3 will announce closures due to weather at least 2 hours before class start time.
  • Cancellations will be announced over email and on social media.
  • If C3 cancels a class due to inclement weather, affected students will be permitted to make-up their class in accordance with the missed class policy above.

Other considerations

Refunds are not given for failure to attend, absence, sick days, or participant dismissal due to unsafe behavior. In the case that a student’s behavior creates a safety concern, C3 staff will make every reasonable effort to resolve the issue in a way that allows the student to continue participating in circus class. C3 instructors have the final say in all questions of safety.

  • No one may train or be in the studio if under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or prescription drugs that impair the student’s judgement.
  • No one may join a class without properly warming-up, as decided by the instructor.
  • Students must stay home if they are sick and review our COVID-19 Response Plan for guidance on when it is safe to return to the circus studio.
  • Students who have or suspect they may have had a concussion recently must be cleared by a doctor before resuming circus training.
  • Students are always welcome to observe a class, and not participate, if they or the coach deem the student unable to participate in the class due to injury or fatigue.

Frequently Asked Questions

We primarily run our classes in progressive, multi-week terms we call sessions. To sign up for the next 6-9 week session, you’ll need to wait until registration opens, which is usually approximately 3 weeks before the session starts. Upcoming session and registration dates are listed in the pink banner at the top of our website.

If we’re currently in the middle of a session, you can sign up any time for a single drop-in class via the “Drop-in Classes” calendar, linked on our Registration page.

For more information on registration timelines, see our Student Guide to the Studio: Registration: Timeline and How-To.

Yes! Prior to the start of each session, we offer a “taster” class for adults, which is a one-off 90-minute introduction to various aerial and ground disciplines. Taster classes will be listed with workshops and community events on our registration page! You can also try out circus through drop-in classes, workshops and community events, or  private lessons.

At C3, the waitlist is unranked. If spots become available, they are released to everyone on the list at the same time via email.

Please read through the information on the registration page labeled “Refund, Cancelation, & Injury Policy” when you register for classes, which details dates, fees, and other refund information specific to your registration. Generally, session classes are non-refundable after the start of the session, drop-in classes are non-refundable, and all refunds are subject to administrative fees. We may be able to accommodate solutions for account credit. Email us at info@commonwealthcircus.com for any refund or account credit inquiries.

Students are able to receive a make-up credit for up to two missed classes per session, if they have signed out of their missed class at least 4 hours before the class start time. Make-up credits can be used anytime during the same session of the missed class to attend a drop-in class (space permitting) or Open Studio/Open Playtime.

Please note: C3 does not guarantee that there will be spaces available in specific classes or practice times for students to make up missed classes. Classes are often very full; this make-up option is offered as a courtesy, not as a guarantee.

For more information, see our Student Guide to the Studio: Missed Classes and Make-up Credits.

We encourage you to join your class up to 10-15 minutes into class time. If you are later than that, we may give away your class spot.

For more information, see our Student Guide to the Studio: Late Arrivals.

If you are new to circus, sign up for classes labeled All Levels or 101! Students who are new to C3 but have previous circus experience must email info@commonwealthcircus.com before signing up for non-beginner classes.

For more information, see our Student Guide to the Studio: Leveling at C3.

You can read youth class descriptions on our website. We offer a variety of youth class options, primarily split up by age. Generally, we like to give a few different options for age cohorts in our classes because different students thrive in different contexts. We also offer youth classes of different enrollment sizes, from 3-6 students to up to 15 students (with additional coaches/assistants staffed accordingly).

We trust you to make the right decision for your child. And if we have a differing perspective, we will initiate a collaborative conversation with you! If you have any questions about class placement for your child, please email us at info@commonwealthcircus.com. Please note that any age exceptions must be discussed over email and are at the discretion of management and coaches.

For more information, see our Student Guide to the Studio: C3 Youth Class Options/Choosing a Youth Class.

For all classes, wear comfortable athletic clothes that cover your legs and armpits and that stay in place when you go upside-down. Long hair should be pulled back, and all jewelry must be removed or covered with tape to prevent snagging on equipment (small stud or closed-hoop earrings are ok).

Clothing must be free from zippers, sequins, snaps, velcro, hooks, or any other components that might snag equipment, hair, or skin. **Please double-check clothing for zippers! Check the back waist and ankles of leggings in particular for hidden zippers. Zippers damage aerial fabrics and may not be worn in circus classes.**

Socks are optional, but be prepared to go barefoot for most classes. For wheel and pole classes, please refer to your class description for additional footwear and/or clothing requirements.

You may also want to bring a notebook, and a water bottle! If bringing a water bottle, please make sure it is not glass, and has a lid. We have a sink for refilling bottles as well as a drinking fountain in the studio.

Any photos or videos taken in the studio require the explicit consent of all visible students (and their guardians for students under 18). Recording of coaches requires the consent of the coach (not all coaches are willing to be filmed), and we do not allow any posting of videos of our instructors.

Capturing photos or video must not disrupt class time, and for youth students, we encourage parents and guardians to sit outside of the student’s line of sight during class per our philosophy for independent learning.

For more information, see our Student Guide to the Studio: Photo and Video Policies and C3’s Philosophy for Independent Learning.

Classes for students ages 4 and up are for students to take independently. We cannot allow extra people in the studio while classes are running. This is because of our philosophy for independent learning, in addition to safety concerns and occupancy limits. We can discuss an accommodation if this would be helpful for your student.

For more information, see our Student Guide to the Studio: Guardian Participation and C3’s Philosophy for Independent Learning, What To Do While Your Child is in Class, and Guardian Presence in Class.

Our student-teacher ratio changes from time to time depending on the ages and levels of the classes. That said, most of our classes have 1 teacher to 6 students. Toddler classes (ages 1.5-4) usually have 1 coach to 8 student/guardian pairs. For birthday parties, we staff 1 coach per 8 participants.
