Coach

Josh Brody

Josh discovered circus in 2016- coming from the world of partnered dance, he very quickly fell in love with the partnership, trust, and physical demands of the art.  He began training at Esh Circus Arts and graduated from their Professional Preparatory Program in 2020. As a performer, he strives to create pieces that play in spaces of vulnerability, pushing his own limits both physically and emotionally. He especially loves character play and narrative storytelling through circus.

As a coach, Josh endeavors to find and focus on the core techniques that are the building blocks of multiple movements, so that learning one trick opens the door to multiple others. He also works to make sure bases and flyers each understand how they can contribute to the movements both individually and together, so that everyone involved feels safe and that they have agency. Having always worked in a similar-sized duo, he also enjoys studying how technique and mechanics can be adapted to accommodate different partnerships dynamics.

Outside of circus, he can be found attempting to draw maps for fantasy worlds, or hot gluing random objects together to make terrain for his next DnD session.
